À Rebours

À Rebours or Against Nature by J.K. Huysmans: Is des Esseintes ugly? He hates ugliness, but he's also a degenerate who dies. I'm writing about Solomné and his weird infatuation with her and the painting of her, and I'd love to make a pithy comment about his potential ugliness in relation with his psychological neurosis, but I am not 100% sure it's not in the book somewhere. Any thoughts from frenchgeeks who have read this book and feel certain one way or another on this point?

Merci!!
